Political donation reporting rules: thresholds and timing

This table sets out when a political donation must be reported, to whom, and how fast. UK parties report donations above £11,180, or £2,230 for accounting units 1, in quarterly returns 2. The US figure shown is a contribution limit, not a reporting threshold 4. Australia's federal threshold falls from more than $17,300 to more than $5,000 on 1 January 2027 6,8. Blank cells mean the source read did not state the fact.

Notes

  • A limit caps what one donor may give. A threshold sets when a gift must be reported. The US row shows a limit 4.
  • UK donations from one donor that together pass the threshold must be reported 2.
  • Australia's 2025 reform adds caps on gifts and electoral spending from 1 January 2027 8.
